Seven crypto policy predictions for 2023

As the abysmal year of crypto 2022 comes to an end, I have been reflecting on the promise of last year’s predictions when the crypto market was at its height and the possibilities seemed boundless. At this time a year ago, I remember standing in an interminable line in the freezing cold, waiting for over two hours to get a covid test while listening to my favorite crypto podcast lay out optimistic predictions for 2022. As 2022 comes to an end and we reflect on how none of it came true (Bitcoin would hit 100k!), WCOIN decided to take a stab at drafting some of our own policy predictions for 2023.

Endaoment is the first 501c3 community foundation built on the Ethereum blockchain that encourages and manages the giving of digital assets. Endaoment was created to solve two problems - 1) allowing a tax-compliant and easy way for donors to give crypto or NFTs and 2) allowing nonprofits to receive donations that originated in crypto, delivered as dollars, at no cost to the nonprofit. Endaoment accepts over 1,000 tokens in-app and many more in an over-the-counter fashion. Since inception, we’ve done $49 million through our on-chain donor-advised funds, community funds, and direct donations.

SENATOR CYNTHIA LUMMIS - WAGMI Woman of the Week

Cynthia Lummis was sworn into the United States Senate on January 3, 2021, becoming the first woman to serve as United States Senator from the great State of Wyoming.

Born on a cattle ranch in Laramie County, Senator Lummis has spent her entire career fighting for Wyoming families, communities, businesses and values. First elected to the U.S. House in 2008, Senator Lummis effectively elevated western issues, pushing through the first Interior and Environment (EPA) Appropriations bill to pass the House in seven years under her chairmanship. She also successfully passed the National Forest System Trails Stewardship Act in 2016, a bipartisan effort led by Cynthia to maintain over 157,000 miles of trails within our national forests.

After departing U.S. House of Representatives in 2016, Senator Lummis operated her family’s cattle ranches, and the Sweetgrass development in Laramie County, with her brother and sister. She is a three-time graduate of the University of Wyoming in animal science, biology and law. She and her late-husband, Al Wiederspahn, have one daughter, Annaliese, son-in-law Will Cole and grandsons Gus and Al.

Reshini Premaratne - WAGMI Women of the Week

Reshini is this week’s WAGMI women of the week & also a member of WCOIN’s board! She is a policy advisor, soon-to-be management consultant who is driven by 2 things: (1) bringing more women & non-binary people to the web3 space, and (2) making crypto-law and policy more accessible.

Reshini just finished up a stint at U.S. Treasury, working to stand up the Department’s new Office of Recovery Programs to centralize and deploy federal funding for COVID relief. At the same time, she was helping the global non-profit, Peace First, fundraise a $500,000 fund and leading events & operations at a web3 start-up, We3. Her true passion, though, is making complex legal topics and policy developments understandable and accessible to all of web3. So, Reshini and her sister, Inesha, founded The Law Layer, which sends out a weekly newsletter and daily tweets providing digestible bits on all things legal in web3. Ultimately, Reshini is driven by increasing financial inclusion and accession — which drives her passion for women & emerging markets in web3.
